International Photography Residency Opportunity

GRAIN and IED Madrid are seeking submissions from artists, photographers and curators both from the West Midlands, UK and from Spain, to apply for a residency program in Birmingham and Madrid. The applicant must have a photographic practice.

Esta residencia tiene como objetivo que fotógrafos, artistas y comisarios puedan dedicar tiempo a trabajar en un espacio alejado de su entorno y obligaciones habituales. Un espacio para reflejar, investigar y explorar su práctica profesional en otra comunidad; conocer gente nueva y utilizar nuevos materiales experimentando la vida en un nuevo lugar.

Anímate a participar en esta oportunidad que proporcionará al ganador un acercamiento a la amplia oferta de colecciones e investigación cultural de Birmingham. The residency is a special opportunity for an emerging artist or curator to research and devise new work that contributes to their professional development, portfolio and the cultural significance of the spaces/hosts/communities.

This opportunity is part of a broader series of continued professional development opportunities conceived and developed by GRAIN in partnership with IED Madrid, supported by Arts Council England and Birmingham City University.

GRAIN and IED Madrid will be the host and will provide introductions, contacts, networks, information about accommodation and the local area etc.

The Residency has been designed as an exchange. At the same time a residency will be undertaken by an artist, photographer or curator from Madrid/Barcelona in the West Midlands, UK.

We are looking for artists to engage with this opportunity, to gather information and inspiration from experts in other fields, to develop their practise in new ways and to create work that engages wide ranging audiences.

The material outcomes of the residency must engage with photographic practice. The outcomes may take the form of new work for a portfolio, research outcomes, new writing, temporary artworks created with input from a community. It is expected that the artist will present work in progress and give at least two public talks about the experience.

Residency Fee: £1,500

The selected artist will be paid the bursary in instalments to be agreed on appointment.

This fee is inclusive of all travel costs, subsistence, materials and accommodation.

IED Madrid will help coordinate travel arrangements and excursions to other places of interest in Spain and the artist/curator will be able to attend selected workshops in the framework of IED’s photography program, available at iedphotography.com

Residency Taiwan (Residency Unlimited Raffle). Deadline: June 5, 2016

Win an all expenses paid two-month artist’s residency in Taipei, Taiwan.

-1 ticket: $25 2 or more tickets: $20 each

The winning artist will spend one month of their residency at Taipei Artist Village – Treasure Hill and one month at Bamboo Curtain Studio any time between January and June 2017.

Artists can buy tickets on their own behalf. Anyone can buy tickets and nominate the artist/s of their choice.

Entries will close at midnight on June 5, 2016.

The winning ticket will be drawn at the occasion of Residency Unlimited’s Annual Benefit 2016 on June 6 at Richard Taittinger Gallery. Raffle tickets can be purchased without attending the benefit.

CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

The artist entering the raffle is a practicing visual artist with a website or portfolio URL showing at least 3 years of professional practice.

If you are recommending an artist, please indicate the name and URL or website of your nominated artist/s.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION & BENEFITS

The winner will spend 1 month at Taipei Artist Village – Treasure Hill and 1 month at Bamboo Curtain Studio between January and June 2017. Both are highly respected residency programs in Taiwan that promote cross-cultural exchanges for local and international artists.

Residency Unlimited will cover the airfare cost to Taipei and provide a stipend to the winning artist. The hosting organizations will provide accommodation and studio space. The date of the residency will be determined directly between the winning artist and the hosting organizations.

ABOUT Taipei Artist Village – Treasure Hill (TAV-TH)

Founded in 2010, TAV-TH evolved from an old settlement into a residency program, an ecological sanctuary, historical site and art museum all at once. Located in a special enclave that was part of the first wave of buildings in Taipei, TAV-TH is part of AIR Taipei umbrella organization that also oversees the Taipei Artist Village (TAV) residency program. Sites like Taipei Artist Village – Treasure Hill where green space, public art and historical preservation intersect, have helped to redefine Taipei as a modern, creative city. Past, present and future truly coalesce on this hill.

ABOUT Bamboo Curtain Studio (BCS)

Founded in 1995, Bamboo Curtain Studio (BCS) is an independent non-profit organization. BCS is a reused farm with six living spaces; space for exhibition, multi functional performance; exchange center; ceramics & sculpture studio; community kitchen, and outdoor stage, plaza and gardens. BCS is situated along the bicycle path of the Tamsui riverbank.We aim to promote cross-cultural exchanges by providing a meeting point for visitors from national and international art related fields, for short visits or specific projects. Latent. Deadline: June 30, 2016

Latent is the result of the meeting and collaboration between D.O.O.R and MATÈRIA, two Rome based institutions specialised in photography. Latent (an anagram for Talent) is an open call aimed at the discovery and the promotion of photographic research and production characterised by originality and innovation within the field of contemporary photography.

The open call has no age or nationality requirements and is open to all artists working with the photographic medium. We strongly encourage experimentation, the use of traditional and contemporary approaches, innovation, and the dialogue between photography and other artistic mediums.

Three artists will be selected to take part in a month long exhibition at Matèria, set to open on the second week of September 2016.

The overall winner will be awarded a two-week artist residency in Rome. The award will allow the selected artist to work towards the creation of a new body of work.

Awards for Art Criticism. Deadline: October 15, 2015

The second annual international Awards for Art Criticism are open to candidates of any age from anywhere in the world, writing in Chinese or English about any contemporary art exhibition held between 20 September 2014 and 20 September 2015.

The International Awards of Art Criticism (IAAC) will be hosted by an International Board, adjudicated by and international jury and organised by the Shanghai 21st Century Minsheng Art Museum (M21), in partnership with the Royal College of Art, London. The principal sponsor is the China Minsheng Banking Corporation Ltd (CMBC). The International Awards for Art Criticism aim to support independent critical coverage of contemporary art, away from the immediate pressures of the market, media and private patronage.they seek to stimulate good writing, critical thinking, dialogue and research, initially in the Chinese and English languages.

The objectivity of the selection process is underpinned, both by the recognised professionalism of the Chinese and English-speaking jury members and by the strict anonymity of the judging process. The Awards will be hosted by an International Board adjudicated by international jury members, including Dr.Marek Bartelik , Catherine David, Dieter von Graffenried , Li Pi and Lee Yongwoo .

The First Prize will consist of a cash award of 6,000 euro and a short-term residency in Shanghai. The two Second Prizes – one each, for an essay in Chinese or English – will each consist of a cash award of 2,000 euro.

Culture Vultures Open Residency September 2015. Deadline: May 15th, 2015.

If you are looking for an opportunity to develop cultural understanding through a shared artistic process then this unique interactive artist residency in the heart of Morocco is for you.

The open AIR  residency has at its core a concise mission to bring multi disciplinary international artists together by enhancing dialogue and cross cultural exchange through a variety of arts programmes and cultural events in a unique way, that leads towards an enriching and shared learning experience for all participants in the historical town of Sefrou and the imperial city of Fez, the Moroccan capital of crafts as recognized by UNESCO and world’s largest car-free urban metropolis.

The residency provides opportunities for artists, curators, critical writers and art professionals to research and develop their practices, it supports both emerging and established professionals, working in any medium.

The aim of the residency is to generate a fresh creative space for participants at a crucial point in their career and for the participating artists to leave Sefrou with expanded possibilities, new networks and in some cases even new works.

Selection for the programme will follow the criteria of artistic distinction, nature of contemporary practice and a desire to interact and engage with the local community in the Atlas Mountains, with the ultimate aim of developing an artistic response to their intensive four-week cultural experience.

This immersive residential programme incorporates materclasses and interactive workshops, alongside community engagement and individual studio time.

The progarmme is open to all artistic disciplines across the spectrum including designers, visual artists, installation artists, writers, musicians, performers, researchers or conceptual artists wishing to spend four weeks exploring the techniques, materials and personalities of the traditional crafts masters of the area.  Artists will be housed together in the old medina of Sefrou and  given work spaces where necessary. 

 

When: This residency will take place from 1st September– 29thSeptember 2015

The program includes

  • Orientation in Sefrou.
  • A half day tour of the in the old city of Fez with a historical guide.
  • Artists dinners.
  • Informal dinners where visiting artists are introduced to the local arts community.
  • Lectures, round tables and presentations.
  • Excursions out of Sefrou to get a fresh perspective of the surrounding area.

 

The Residence Cost is– 950 Euros

Professional facilitation between visiting artists and the local community.

Cherry-Picked Photography Residency. Deadline: April 30th, 2015

For Adventurous Artists of the Lens – Cherry -Picked-Photography-Quest.
Every June, for over 90 years, the market town of Sefrou, nestled at the base of the middle Atlas Mountains in North Morocco, has celebrated the cherry season with its Cherry Festival.
Culture Vultures and ASIL Visuals invite practicing photographers to dive deep into the festivities through the perception of a camera lens on a 4 –day, photo focused discovery of the local festival.
Residency / Festival Dates –  4th – 8th June 2015

The 4-day program incudes

  • Orientation visit of the town and festival site.
  • A lecture on the local culture and Sefrou’s Cherry Festival by a Fez University Professor.
  • Facilitation around the festival.
  • Local network and knowledge and support.
Places area limited to six practitioners.  Selection is made through an application process and submission committee. Note that the deadline has been extended to April 30th

Cost of residency 550 Euros *

Includes: Comfortable Accommodation / A rich program / One delicious, main meal a day.

Accepting Applications: Georgia Fee Residency in Paris. Deadline: April 3rd, 2015

The summer session of the Georgia Fee Artist | Writer Residency is now accepting applications.
All applications must by submitted by Friday, April 3rd at Midnight Pacific Time.
The Summer 2015 residency will take place July 1st – August 31st, 2015.
It includes a monthly stipend of $1000 USD and airfare to and from Paris.
The residency takes place in the middle of Paris. Studio space is not provided. 
Thanks to our strategic partner, Residency Unlimited, the resident will be introduced to prominent arts
professionals from Paris that have experience relevant to the resident’s practice and proposed project.
