Call for Submissions: Journal for Artistic Research (JAR). Deadline: Feb. 2, 2018.

Call for Submissions: JAR Issue 16 – Summer 2018
Journal for Artistic Research (JAR)
DEADLINE EXTENDED: The deadline for consideration is now 2 February 2018
JAR publishes artistic research from all arts disciplines, with or without academic affiliation, and includes the work of artistic research practitioners and theorists. Rethinking the traditional journal format, JAR offers its contributors a free-to-use online space called the Research Catalogue (RC) where text can be woven together with image, audio and video material. The Journal is specifically interested in contributions that reflect upon and expose artistic practice as research, and welcomes submissions from artists interested in exchanging ideas and opening up the processes and methodologies that underlie their practice. Please view our archive to get a sense of what we publish.
To be considered for Peer Review, the editorial board considers:
1. Whether the exposition exposes artistic practice as research. This engages with questions and claims about knowledge within practice. For a detailed articulation of this please read the editorial to JAR0.
2. The degree to which the exposition is conceptually and artistically strong, considered, and significant to the field.
3. Whether the multimedia and design capacities of the RC have been used effectively and meaningfully to support the argument or understanding of the research.
To submit an article, contributors are required to register for an account on the RC and use the online space to design the layout for and expose their research. JAR provides editorial and technical guidance with these processes.
For our guidelines on submissions visit:
www.jar-online.net/submissions/
For submissions information, and advice on whether your research is suitable for JAR, contact the Managing Editor, at submissions@jar-online.net
JAR works with an international editorial board and a large panel of peer-reviewers.
Editor in Chief: Michael Schwab
Peer Review Editor: Julian Klein
Editorial Board: Alex Arteaga, Annette Arlander, Barnaby Drabble, Mika Elo, Leonella Grasso Caprioli, Yara Guasque, Julian Klein and Mareli Stolp.
JAR is published by the Society for Artistic Research (SAR), an independent, non-profit association. You can support JAR by becoming an individual or institutional member of SAR. More information can be found here.

Artist Call for participation in book project. Extended Deadline: Mar. 31, 2018

Call for submissions
Artists who explore the relationship between the Self and the Other are invited to respond with images and short positional statements for publication.

Self and Identity have become major themes of our connected lives. The ease with which we gravitate to like-minded people, the bubble we comfortably find ourselves in means that we only sometime manage to discern the difference between ourselves and other people. The bubble remains intact; wars, elections, referenda rattle our security but for many life continues as before.
As artists, we need to reach further than most. We need to approach the Otherness of the outside world with more generosity. To accept it may be that  we cannot answer questions about selfhood without a recognition that the differences between people, experienced as alienation and separation, are unreal : following Paul Ricoeur and his work “Oneself as Another”, we must accept that we have too much Otherness within ourselves.

This call is to reach out to you as an artist with this shared interest and to join with me in a community of shared research. I found this line of research beginning with the cast shadow of the self and through exploring its independent, isolated and wayward behaviour. I have previously made a short monograph “Shadow:Other:myself” (ISBN 978-1977535535, preview https://goo.gl/TC6DqV )

To take this goal of community building further my intention is to make a limited edition, hardback book publication of your contributions. The book will feature 20 (approx. ) artists with images and facing text. In the first instance, two copies will be posted to each published participant. We can then discuss our next steps.
Initially, send an image and an account (200 words) to describe your Self’s response to the Other with a URL for other relevant work. The artist must confirm that they own copyright in the image and text.
On progress the selected image must be available in hi-res (3000 x 3000 pixels) — the artist will at all times retain control of copyright both of image and text. As editor I can help you with any translation from your own words, the text of the book will be published in English.

European Photography #100 Call. Deadline: Sept. 25, 2016

“Call for Submissions: To celebrate its 100th issue, European Photography is looking for 100 outstanding single images and the stories behind them. www.talking.photography. – Why a submission fee? Our past calls for submission were free and open to everyone – with the result that we became swamped with entries that had nothing to do with the topic at hand. By requesting a modest administration fee for what we are offering with this call – possible publication in European Photography, presentation on our website talking.photography, and a free copy for every selected participant – we hope to channelize this process and address only those who are truly committed and engaged”.
