LANDSKRONA PORTFOLIO REVIEW

Welcome to Landskrona Portfolio Review, held for the fourth time in the framework of our Festival. As in previous years, we invite photographers and lens-based artists to show their work to experts from around the globe, in order to receive useful feedback and opportunities for exhibitions and publications. The reviews will be accompanied by lectures, workshops, and the possibility for informal meetings with your peers.

Furthermore, the winner of the Best Portfolio Award will be invited to take part in the official exhibition programme during Landskrona Foto Festival 2018. Former winners include Johan Österholm, Johan Willner and Kacper Kowalski.

This year we have a special prize!  – Landskrona Foto and Artproof Portfolio of the Year Award – the portfolio that reviewers voted as the year’s most interesting and promising. The prize consists of getting an exhibition produced by Artproof up to a value of 5,000 euros and to exhibit in the coming years Landskrona Foto Festival.

The new leaders of the Portfolio Review is Beate Cegielska of Galleri Image in Århus, Denmark, and the Austrian curator Moritz Neumüller. Since 1990 Beate Cegielska has curated a large number of group and solo exhibitions of Danish and international artists in Europe, South Korea, China and India. For many years she has also participated as a Portfolio Reviewer at different photo festivals around the world. Moritz Neumüller is head of the educational programme European Master of Fine Art Photography in Madrid and since 2010 he has run Curator Ship – a platform for photography and picture culture. In 2009 he founded ArteConTacto – a project aiming to explore art through all the senses. Ongoing projects include Photobook Week in Århus and Photobook Phenomenon for the Barcelona culture centre CCCB.

Cost: The participation in the Open Call is free of charge. Only selected candidates have to pay the participation fee of SEK 2,500 including VAT, which also gives access to the festival’s International Seminar and a weekend festival pass.

Houston, Texas. Between each session of the Meeting Place, there are “break days” (March 16, March 21, and March 26) where workshops, curatorial forums, exhibition tours, lectures, and symposia take place. Presentation Text: Descubrimientos PHE is the portfolio review of PHotoEspaña. Offering photographers  the opportunity to present their work to critics, curators and editors especialized in photography with the objetive of generating professional outlets for their work.

An independent jury will select seventy photographers to participate in the portfolio reviews. The jury will also determine a wait list in the event that there may be a cancelation. The portfolio of all of the selected participants will be included http://www.phe.es There is an inscription fee of 240 Euros for all participants.

Each photographer will have seven appointments, each with a duration of twenty minutes. The appointments will be held over three days and are celebrated with strict punctuality. The reviews will be given in English or Spanish. The organization will do its best to arrange appointments with the reviewers preferred by each of the photographers. The organization will send each participant a personal schedule close to the dates, once we near the dates of the event.

The winner of the award may have participated in the portfolio review on previous occasions, but cannot have been recognized with this award in prior editions. PHotoEspaña will make public the jury´s results when the festival awards are announced. PHotoEspaña reserves the right to promote the winner´s name and images in printed and digital materials.

Presentation Text: The Athens Photo Festival’s Portfolio Reviews offer an opportunity for emerging artists and photographers to meet and network with internationally acclaimed experts. A total of 20 curators, editors, agency and festival directors and influential experts from different countries are brought together during the Athens Photo Festival to provide an opportunity for photographers and artists to receive advice on their work.

This year’s portfolio review programme will take place on Monday and Tuesday 13-14 June 2016 at the Benaki Museum (Pireos St. Annexe) in Athens. Participants can register for either 4, 6 or 8 one-to-one reviews. Each review session lasts for 20 minutes. Places are limited, so early application is highly encouraged.

In addition to providing professional advice, the reviewers will award the “Best Portfolio” and the winner will have the chance to exhibit at the Athens Photo Festival 2017 edition.

Presentation Text: The ViennaPhotoBookReview, which had its successful launch last year and will be continued this year, will take place one day before the festival starts, on Friday, June 19, 2015. Our goal is to offer talented photographers from around the world a forum to discuss their books with a wide range of photography experts, thereby producing a lively dialogue between the aspiring artists and the experts from various prestigious institutions. Presentation Text: Filter Photo is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Chicago, Illinois.

Filter Photo’s mission is two-fold: first, to serve and support the photographic communities of Chicago and the Midwest; and second, to highlight Chicago as a vital center of the national photographic community. Since 2009 Filter Photo has organized the annual Filter Photo Festival, a multiday celebration of photography that includes workshops, lectures, exhibition receptions, artist talks, and other diverse programming.

In the Portfolio Review, participants sign up for twenty-minute face-to-face reviews and receive candid advice about their work, as well as information on getting their photographs exhibited and published. We are thrilled to have so many of our attendees walk away with connections that have led them to publishing their work, gallery shows, online exhibitions and the indispensable opportunity to network with their peers.

BIPA Photo Award. Deadline: May 27, 2016

Second edition of the Valid Foto BCN International Contemporary Photography Awards in collaboration with LensCulture and Docfield Festival

Galería Valid Foto BCN, in partnership with LensCulture and Festival Docfield, presents the second edition of the “Barcelona International Photography Awards”, with the aim of showcasing international contemporary photography and forming collaborative links between countries and photographic communities. Professionals and amateurs, over the age of 18, may submit photographs.The award is open to any type of photograph, with no restrictions on subject matter.

We are looking for high quality projects, including those that are only starting to take shape, in order to give them international exposure. The competition will be open to entries from 27 April to 27 May 2016 inclusive. The winners will be anounced on 8 June 2016.

The judging panel, made up of eight professional experts from the contemporary photographic and visual arts scene, will assess the submitted portfolios and select eight of them for the following prizes:

– An exhibition featuring the eight winning photographers as chosen by the panel of judges. This will be presented by Galería Valid Foto of Barcelona from July 2016, with the possibility of an international tour.

– The exhibition will be part of the DOCfield 2016 festival programme in Barcelona.

– The eight winners will be assigned a personal account in the LensCulture portal, where they will be able to share their new photographic work.

– In addition to the exhibition, the management of Galería Valid Foto BCN may offer to represent one of the photographers nominated by the judging panel. This photographer will be included in the gallery’s programme of exhibitions and activities during the course of 2016- 2017.

– The photographer chosen by the gallery will have an article about his or her work published on the LensCulture website.

– The winning photographers will be given a Valid Foto Award consisting of tutorials, portfolio reviews and personalized advice aimed at helping them secure a place for their work in the market.

Participation Requirements

Any photographer over 18 years of age, with a portfolio or photographic series of 5-20 photographs may take part. Submission will be exclusively by electronic means. To make a submission, go to BIPA2016 in the website, where you will be able to register. Once you have entered the website, follow the instructions to upload your images from your computer. When your submission has been completed you will receive a confirmation email. The images submitted should be in JPEG format with a minimum of 1,400 pixels in their longest dimension and the Adobe 1998 or sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile embedded.

Fees

The inscription fee for BIPA 2016 is 50 US$ per portfolio. Participants may submit up to a maximum of five portfolios.

GuatePhoto Open Call for Photobooks and Portfolios. Deadline: August 21, 2015

There are 2 categories to participate in GuatePhoto, Guatemala’s International Photography Festival, which will take place in teh cities of Guatemala and Antigua Guatemala, during the month of November 2015.

You have to fill out an online form until August 21, and pay 25 US$, to participate in each of them. If you participate in the photobook category, you also have to send a physical copy of the book (until Aug. 31) to Guatemala.

Lens Culture International Exposure Awards discover, reward, and promote talented, new, emerging and established photographers and multimedia creators from around the world.

We’re looking for exciting work from every continent, and from diverse points of view: documentary, fine art, nature, photojournalism, activism, street photography, sports, fashion, poetic, personal, abstract and human.

A stellar international jury of photography experts will review and judge every entry submitted.

Three Categories for Awards in 2011:

Multimedia Awards
This year, we introduce an important new category to the Awards competition — Multimedia.

Presentations that combine photography, video, graphics and sound are becoming prominent headline features in the world of social networking, activism, fine art, and online news. Photographers are taking more and more control over how their work is edited, produced and presented. And we want to discover who is creating the most engaging multimedia projects today.

Multimedia from all genres and categories will be considered, including, but not limited to: current events / photojournalism / social issues / activism / fine art / conceptual / cinematic / fiction / storytelling / nature / other.

Maximum length should be 8 minutes. If your full-length multimedia piece is longer than 8 minutes, please submit an edit, or a trailer or teaser of 8 minutes or shorter. Winners will be shown in their full original length. Entry fee: $75.

Portfolio Awards
Submit 10 to 15 photographic images that work well together as a group — thematically, aesthetically, as a story, or simply as a range of your photographic talent. Edit your selections carefully, since this category will be judged on the strength of the group of photographs as a whole, and not as individual photographs. Entry fee: $75.

Single Image Awards
Often, a single powerful photograph captures our attention as important, artistic, meaningful, and memorable. A great photo can stand on its own, demonstrating a remarkable level of visual perception, sensitivity, and creativity. Photographs of all genres and all categories are welcome. Entry fee: $35.

25 Honorable Mention Awards:
25 Honorable Mention photographs or multimedia (chosen by the judges from all categories) will win prominent placement of a single image on the Award Winner’s Page in Lens Culture, including a link to your own personal or professional website.
