European Photography #100 Call. Deadline: Sept. 25, 2016

“Call for Submissions: To celebrate its 100th issue, European Photography is looking for 100 outstanding single images and the stories behind them. www.talking.photography. – Why a submission fee? Our past calls for submission were free and open to everyone – with the result that we became swamped with entries that had nothing to do with the topic at hand. By requesting a modest administration fee for what we are offering with this call – possible publication in European Photography, presentation on our website talking.photography, and a free copy for every selected participant – we hope to channelize this process and address only those who are truly committed and engaged”.

GUP Magazine open call for submissions. Deadline: Aug. 31, 2015

GUP Magazine will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, in October. To celebrate the occasion, we’re announcing an OPEN CALL from photographers worldwide for issue #47, which will hit streets in November just after our anniversary date.

GUP Magazine is printed with each issue centred around a theme, with photo series, books, interviews and articles chosen for the issue based primarily on their relationship to that theme. For this reason, submissions are typically not accepted for the print issue, which makes the anniversary issue’s open call a unique opportunity for photo-based artists who wish to see their images appear in a high-quality print publication. The open call does not require that photographers adhere to a given theme, but rather they are encouraged to submit coherent and well-developed conceptual photo series containing a minimum of ten images. Both established and emerging photographers are encouraged to submit, though preference will be given to series that have not previously been published.

Submissions are typically not accepted for the print issue, which makes the anniversary issue’s open call a unique opportunity

The submissions period opens on June 1, 2015 and will close August 31, 2015. Photographers worldwide of any age and professional stature are invited to submit their photo series. There are no requirements related to the theme of the submissions nor aesthetic style, the series should only be contemporary and conceptual art photography.

Up to 10 photo series may be selected for inclusion in GUP’s anniversary issue, depending on the quality of submissions. Artists who are selected for the issue will be notified by mid-October 2015.

Submission Instructions

Interested photographers are invited to send their photo series of contemporary, conceptual art photography projects to magazine@gupmagazine.com with the subject line “Submission – GUP Anniversary Issue” using the following guidelines:

Between 10 – 30 images should be sent as lo-res (72dpi) JPGs, at a minimum of 1280px width, as an email attachment (either single images or a zipped archive), or as a link to a specific URL which contains the series as a download. Transfer services (like wetransfer or dropbox) are also acceptable, assuming that the download does not have an expiry date.

High-res images should be available immediately on request.

Artists should include as an attachment (Word or PDF) a brief project statement (50 – 500 words) about the submitted series and a brief biography including birth year and country (50 – 250 words).

Please inform us if there are more images from the series on request.

Please inform us about any previous or upcoming publications of the submitted series.

Submission is free. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered. Artists who are selected for inclusion in the issue will be notified by mid-October 2015.

FOAM Talent Call 2014. Deadline: March 12, 2014

The international photography magazine Foam Magazine has officially opened submission for its eighth annual Talent Call on Wednesday, 29 January 2014. All photographers worldwide between 18 and 35 years old are invited to submit their portfolios for the Talent issue.

“The annual Foam Talent Call searches for exceptional, talented photographers from all over the world. We aim to have an annual overview of the work of young promising artists. We are curious for new developments, trends and themes that are of importance to contemporary artists,” according to Marloes Krijnen (Director Foam and editor-in-chief of Foam Magazine) and Pjotr de Jong (Creative director at Vandejong and Foam Magazine).

Every year, Foam Magazine dedicates one issue to the work of young talents. It is a springboard into the international photography industry for these artists, giving them worldwide recognition and acclaim. Last year the winning portfolios were chosen from more than 1500 submissions from all over the globe. The winning portfolios, chosen by the Foam Magazine editorial team, will be published in Foam Magazine Talent issue, which will be released this August. Selection procedure

When will the selection procedure take place?
Between March and June 2014. If you are selected, we will notify you as soon as possible.

When am I a talent?
There is a difference between ‘being talented’ and ‘being a talent’. Being talented isn’t really related to age. Irving Penn was still very talented at a very old age. Being a talent normally describes someone of a young age who has outstanding skills or abilities compared to a person of roughly the same age. In Foam Magazine we always pay attention to the work of truly talented photographers, but in our annual Talent issue we present the work of artists we consider true talents. For more information please read this blog post of our editor.

When will the Talent issue be released?
The talent issue will be released in August 2014.

Who will be the judges?
The Foam Magazine editorial team will select entries.

Why is there a fee?
Because Foam Magazine is non-profit, the €35 that we ask to enter The Foam Talent Call goes towards producing future issues. We have a small, dedicated team that is passionate about photography and they devote a great deal of time into sourcing not just great work, but also the best way to present it. For more information please read this blog post of our editor.

Why is there an age limit?
To enter the Foam Talent Call, you should be between 18 and 35 years old, born between 1995 and 1978. The age limits set for the Talent Call have been created in order to focus once a year on a particular segment of photographers. This is for the simple reason that we are curious about how this generation of people look at the world and express themselves with a camera. For more information please read this blog post of our editor.
