Next Generation. Call for young people. Deadline: March 16, 2018

Stimulating young people to work towards an open, inclusive society through arts and culture.
The Prince Claus Fund announces a new Call for Proposals: the Next Generation 2018. The Fund will support one-year initiatives by and for young people that inspire them to contribute to their societies in ways that make them more inclusive and accepting of differences. The programme is designed to create safe spaces for young women and men where they can explore the possibilities of different stories or alternative narratives that allow them to imagine different ways of being.
This call (The Next Generation 2018) seeks proposals that enable young people (ages 15-30)* in countries eligible from Africa and the Middle East to explore, define and represent their identities through arts and culture in a project that lasts a maximum of one year. Please find attached here the list of countries, which are eligible within Africa and the Middle East.

The Prince Claus Fund supports projects with a financial range up to €25,000.
The deadline for the submission of applications is Friday, March 16th, 2018 at 17:00h (Dutch Time (CET)).

CAP Prize 2018, for African Photography. Deadline: Feb. 7, 2018

The call for entries to the CAP Prize 2018 is open from 7 November 2017 until 7 February 2018. Enter your work that engages with the African continent or its diaspora now and win a series of large scale outdoor exhibitions around the globe. 25 international curators, publishers, editors and artists will review your work. 25 artists will be shortlisted and five short listed artists awarded with the CAP Prize 2018.

The CAP Prize consists of global exposure at major international photography exhibitions and is awarded during the Image Afrique Festival in Basel, Switzerland. The CAP Prize winners exhibition was previously on show at LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria, at FIFCV Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Cabo Verde or Eyes On – European Month of Photography in Vienna just to name a few. The five CAP Prize winners are invited to the main exhibition at the Image Afrique Festival and will spend one week in Basel during Art Basel, all costs covered. A catalog documenting the five winners works will be published in time for the award ceremony.
Each of the five awardees have the chance to be featured by many of our media partners.

In a nutshell: CAP Prize raises the winners’ international exposure and builds a high level network for future projects.

Calling for entries to POPCAP ’16, the piclet.org Prize for Contemporary African Photography. POPCAP is being held for the fifth time in 2016. The prize is aimed at photographers whose work engages with the African continent and/or a diaspora of an African country, and consists of global exposure at major international photography exhibitions such as at Image Afrique in Basel, LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria, Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Cabo Verde in Mindelo or Eyes On in Vienna. The prize also comprises an artist residency for all five winners.

POPCAP aims to raise the profile of African photography within the arts. Each year five winners are selected by an internationally-sourced panel of judges, enabling the promotion of African photography worldwide and helping to avoid geographically and culturally one-sided views of the portfolios.

THE CALL IS OPEN UNTIL 7 FEBRUARY 2016!

The submission criteria are:
Photographs must have been taken in an African country or deal with a diaspora of an African country.

The emphasis of the competition is on image sequences. Images must work together as a whole. We are NOT looking for single images or fashion/advertising/studio work.

Eligible are submissions comprising between 10 and 25 images.

Submitted images should be a minimum of 2500 pixels in width/height at 72 dpi and be no more than 5 megabytes in size.

Should your work be chosen for exhibition, we will ask you to supply high-resolution files that are suitable for print.
Collaborative projects are permitted. Entrants must be sure to note this in the description accompanying their submission.

NOTE ON COPYRIGHT: The images remain the property of the author and POPCAP requires a license to use the images in relation to the competition and promotion of the competition only. Photographers will be consulted, should we wish to use their work in any other context.

POPCAP, le prix de piclet.org pour la photographie africaine contemporaine est décerné aux photographes dont le travail traite du continent africain et/ou de sa diaspora. Le prix offre une couverture médiatique mondiale lors d’expositions de photographie internationales majeures.

POPCAP vise à mettre l’accent sur la photographie africaine dans le monde de l’art. Chaque année, cinq lauréats sont sélectionnés par un panel de juges internationaux afin de promouvoir la photographie africaine à une échelle mondiale, tout en évitant une vision unilatérale, géographique ou culturelle, des portfolios. Grâce à sa large présence dans le contexte quotidien, nous considérons la photographie comme étant le média idéal pour favoriser l’échange d’idées sur l’image de l’Afrique en toute liberté.

POPCAP a été lancé par Benjamin Füglister en 2012. Lors de sa première édition, cinq gagnants ont été choisis parmi 140 dossiers soumis par un panel de neuf juges de nationalités différentes. En 2013, POPCAP a reçu 360 candidatures venant de 57 pays, qui ont été évaluées par un jury composé de 14 personnes. L’édition 2014 de POPCAP a reçu 720 dossiers de 88 pays qui ont été jugés par un panel de 23 juges internationaux. Les plus ou moins 800 candidatures pour POPCAP 2015 ont été évaluées par 19 experts venant du monde entier, et les cinq portfolios vainqueurs ont été présentés lors de 7 expositions d’art internationales.

 

Le prix consiste en une couverture mondiale lors d’expositions de photographie internationales, y compris les expositions POPCAP à Image Afrique à Bâle, en Suisse, au festival LagosPhoto au Nigéria, au FIFCV Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Cabo Verde et à Eyes On – Mois Européen de la Photographie à Vienne. POPCAP invite toujours les artistes gagnants à l’exposition principale, Image Afrique, qui est tenue durant Art Basel à Bâle, en Suisse. POPCAP ’15 PRIZE for African Photography. Deadline: March 1, 2015

POPCAP ’15  PRIZE

The prize consists of global exposure at major international photography exhibitions such as POPCAP exhibitions at Image Afrique in Basel, Switzerland, in cooperation with LagosPhoto Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, and at the FIFCV Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Cabo Verde. We will be inviting all winning artists to our Image Afrique show during Art Basel, Switzerland. All winners will be featured with their respective portfolios in the POPCAP ‘15 catalogue as well as in the piclet.org directory for hand-picked photographers’ portfolios. All winners have the chance to win a fully covered three month residency.

POPCAP ’15 SUBMISSION CRITERIA

Photographs must have been taken in an African country or deal with a diaspora of an African country.
Eligible are bodies of work comprising between 10 and 25 images.
Collaborative projects are permitted.
POPCAP is open to photographers of any age and descent.

POPCAP ’15 JUDGES

The entries to POPCAP ‘15 will be judged a panel of 30 internationally-sourced judges consisting of curators, photographers, publishers, theorists and critics. The judges will be announced early 2015.

POPCAP ’14 – Call for Entries!

piclet.org is pleased to announce that POPCAP – the prize for contemporary African photography will be offered for the third time in 2014. POPCAP is awarded to photographic portfolios that are either produced in an African country or deal with a diaspora of an African country. Submissions to POPCAP are judged by a panel of 26 internationally-sourced judges, with the five winning entries exhibited internationally at a series of publicly accessible exhibitions. The award is open to photographers of any age or descent. There is no entry fee. Call closes July 1 2014.

POPCAP – The Prize

The prize comprises visibility for the winning artists. The five awarded works will initially be on display in an open air show in Basel, Switzerland. The mobile exhibition will then make its way to PhotoIreland Festival, Dublin, Ireland, from there to Berlin, Germany, then to the Cape Town Month of Photography, South Africa, to the LagosPhoto Festival, Nigeria and finally to Addis FotoFest in Ethiopia. POPCAP invites the winners to attend at least one of the shows personally. Besides the shows, the winners portfolios will be published in the POPCAP ‘14 catalog, in European Photography Magazine and their portfolio will be included in the piclet.org directory for hand-picked photographers’ portfolios.

POPCAP – About

POPCAP aims to raise the profile of African photography in the arts, and provide more publicity for artists engaging with the African continent. The internationally-sourced panel of judges enables the promotion of African photography worldwide and helps to avoid geographically and culturally one-sided views of the portfolios. POPCAP also aims to cooperate with international exhibition partners in order to foster exchanges between the various initiatives.

At piclet.org we are interested in the idea of balancing social media networking with “real world” networking through events such as POPCAP. piclet.org was launched in 2009 by Berlin-based media artist Benjamin Füglister as an international online portal for the presentation of contemporary photographers’ portfolios and as an international directory of important festivals, creative publications and institutions for photography.

POPCAP was first awarded in 2012, with five winners chosen from 140 submissions by a panel of nine internationally-sourced judges. In 2013 POPCAP received 360 submissions from 57 countries that were judged by 14 judges. 2014 will see piclet.org offering the prize for contemporary African photography for the third time. The winning portfolios were exhibited in Basel, at PhotoIreland Festival and at LagosPhoto Festival.

About POPCAP ´13

POPCAP is a prize for contemporary African photography that is awarded to photographic portfolios dealing with African themes. The competition is open to photographers of any age and descent. Eligible submissions are visual narratives comprising between 10 and 25 images, and must relate to an African theme. There is no entry fee. The winners are selected by 17 internationally renowned judges.

POPCAP was awarded for the first time in 2012, with five winners chosen from 140 submissions by a panel of nine internationally-sourced judges. This year the five chosen works will be presented to both the international arts community and the general public during Art Basel 44 as well as at PhotoIreland 2013. During POPCAP ‘13 we will aim to maintain a constant discourse regarding African topics through public events running alongside the exhibition, with the overall objective of enhancing awareness of African themes in the arts. Due to its extensive application in a day-to-day context, we consider photography to be the ideal medium from which to foster an unhindered exchange of ideas. Africa Focus Photography Competition. Deadline: Dec. 10, 2012

Casa África invites to take part in the 3rd “Africa Focus” Photography Competition with the subject Africa in Green, which will award photographs that best show the positive aspects of the African continent regarding the environment, renewable energy and economic and social development from a sustainable point of view.

The photographs should also show an optimistic approach so as to do away with the stereotypes that have marked the neighbouring continent for a long time. Casa África, as part of the public consortium made up from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Spanish Agency of International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Government of the Canary Islands and the Town Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is entrusted with the functions of promoting actions and projects that contribute to better understanding and development of all kinds of relations between societies in Africa, Europe and Spain.

  1. Participants
    1. Any individual of legal age can take part in the competition.
    2. Participation by the competitors implies the acceptance of these rules and is subject to the judges’ final decision.
    3. No photographer or employee linked directly or indirectly to Casa África can take part.
      d. Each participant expressly authorises Casa África to reproduce, distribute and publicly communicate the images submitted, as well as to adapt them to the necessary medium for their communication. These images will form part of Casa África’s archive, which may only be used by them for non-profit documentary purposes. This authorisation does not grant Casa África exclusivity, and the authors may use their own images as per their own criteria In the event that Casa África uses an image in public communication events, the author´s name will always be mentioned.
    4. In cases that differ from those specified in the previous section (1.d.), Casa África will manage those corresponding rights with each author.
  2. Subject
    1. The 3rd “Africa Focus” Photography competition Africa in Green is looking for photographs that best portray the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources on the African continent and how to care for the environment, always from an optimistic approach, and one which reinforces the African continent’s current positive aspects, a side which does not usually appear in traditional media. It us about discovering the respect for the environment professed by the societies on the neighbouring continent, unknown landscapes, sustainable projects that promote sustainable, economic and energy development. Images that show positive concepts related to the environment, sustainability, water, urbanism, natural resources, renewable energy and fair trade will be accepted.
  3. Procedure and selection
    1. The invitation to send the photographs will remain open from the 15th October to 10th December 14.00 hours (Spanish time).
    2. Each contestant can take part with a maximum of three (3) photographs. For this, you should send them by email to redes.sociales@casafrica.es. The photographs should be in JPEG or PNG format with an appropriate resolution and size of between 1.5MB and 4 MB. The participant’s following personal details should be included:
      1. Name and Surnames
      2. Contact telephone
      3. Email address
      4. Date of Birth
      5. Nationality
      6. ID No., passport or Foreign residence card
      7. Address
      8. Post Code
      9. Town and Country
      10. Title of each photograph
      11. Description of each photograph
      12. Date and place where each photograph was taken
        Competitors that do not include these details in the message could be excluded from the competition.
    3. We also value the creativity and innovation of the technique used and the way the message is transmitted. The photograph’s description and title will also be valued under these criteria.
    4. The jury will be made up from renowned professionals from the field of the arts. Its composition will be communicated once the decision is published and they will meet shortly after the reception period for the photographs ends. The jury’s decision will be published on Casa África’s website (http://www.casafrica.es) and on the social networks where Casa África is present.
    5. Casa África reserves the right to declare the competition void if the number of images presented were not enough or in the case that, in the jury’s opinion, the artistic level or reason for the photographs does not fit in with the competition’s rules or objectives.
    6. The photographs may not be older than five years when they are submitted, and should not have received an award in any other contest.
  4. Prizes.
    1. Each image could obtain one of the following prizes:
      1. First prize: 600 €
      2. Second and third prize: 200€ each one
    2. The authors of the five prized photographs will be notified of their prize via the email address given for communication.
    3. The winners must respond to the message received accepting the prize. If no response is received within five working days from when the email is sent or if the email address is incorrect or non-existent, the prize will automatically pass to the following photograph chosen by the jury.
    4. Payment of the prize will be subject to Spanish tax legislation in force at the time of payment, regardless of the winner’s country of tax residence.
    5. The winners will be able to receive the prize via a bank transfer or a money transfer service. The transfer fees will be charged at the destination account.
  5. Data Protection
    1. The competition’s contestants and participants are informed and authorise that personal data given when enrolling into the competition, without which they could not take part in the competition, will be incorporated into an automated file, which is held by the Casa África Consortium, and will be used only so as to allow them to take part in the competition.
  6. Rights of exclusion
    1. Casa África Consortium reserves the right to rule out and exclude  participants from the competition in the following cases:
      1. If they enrol with false data. Due to this, participants may be requested to verify their data.
      2. If they fraudulently or artificially manipulate their participation in the competition.
      3. If the jury consider that the photographs do not fit in with the subject matter set out; contain elements that in any way could be considered contrary to fundamental rights and public freedom; they induce, incite or promote criminal, slanderous, violent  actions or that are generally against the law, morality or good customs generally accepted in public order; they are protected by any copyrights or intellectual rights belonging to third parties, without the participant having acquired previous legal permission from the holders beforehand; they violate the right to honour, personal or family privacy or the image of people themselves; they could be considered advertising or have a  virus or other elements that could damage the normal functioning of the network, system or computer equipment.
      4. If any of these rules are not complied with in any way.
  7. Exoneration of responsibility
    1. The Casa África Consortium will be exonerated and will not be responsible for the failure of the participant to comply with copyright, intellectual property ownership or that of image, as well as any responsibility that could arise from this failure or defective compliance by the participants of these Competition rules.

Bases del III Concurso Fotográfico ‘Objetivo África’
África en Verde
Casa África convoca el III Concurso Fotográfico ‘Objetivo África’ bajo la temática África en Verde, que premiará las fotografías que mejor den a conocer los aspectos positivos del continente africano en relación con el medio ambiente, las energías renovables y el desarrollo económico y social desde un punto de vista sostenible. Además, las fotografías deben mostrar un enfoque optimista con el objetivo de derribar los estereotipos que desde hace mucho tiempo han marcado al continente vecino. Casa África, como consorcio público integrado por el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación, la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID), el Gobierno de Canarias y el Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, tiene encomendadas las funciones de impulsar actuaciones y proyectos que contribuyan al mejor conocimiento y al desarrollo de las relaciones de toda índole entre las sociedades de África, Europa y España.
1. Participantes
a. Podrá participar en el concurso cualquier persona física mayor de edad.
b. La participación de los aspirantes implica la aceptación de estas bases y la inapelable decisión del jurado.
c. No podrá participar ningún fotógrafo o empleado relacionado directa o indirectamente con Casa África.
d. Cada participante autoriza expresamente a Casa África la reproducción, distribución y comunicación pública de las imágenes presentadas, así como su adaptación al soporte necesario a efectos de su comunicación. Dichas imágenes pasarán a formar parte del archivo de Casa África, que sólo podrá utilizarlas para fines divulgativos y sin ánimo de lucro. Esta autorización no implica exclusividad hacia Casa África y el autor o autora podrá hacer uso de sus imágenes a su criterio. En el caso de que Casa África utilice alguna imagen en actos de comunicación pública, siempre hará mención al nombre de su autor.
e. En casos distintos a los especificados en el apartado anterior (1.d.), Casa África gestionará los derechos correspondientes con cada autor o autora.

2. Temática
a. El III Concurso Fotográfico ‘Objetivo África’: África en Verde busca las fotografías que mejor retraten el uso eficiente y sostenible de los recursos naturales en el continente africano y el cuidado por el medio ambiente, siempre desde un enfoque optimista, y que refuercen los aspectos positivos y actuales del continente africano, esa cara que usualmente no aparece en los medios tradicionales. Se trata de descubrir el respeto al medio ambiente que le profesan las sociedades del continente vecino, parajes desconocidos, proyectos sostenibles que promuevan su desarrollo sostenible, económico y energético. Se aceptarán imágenes que comuniquen conceptos positivos relacionados con el medio ambiente, la sostenibilidad, el agua, el urbanismo, los recursos naturales, las energías renovables o el comercio justo.

3. Procedimiento y selección

a. La convocatoria para el envío de fotografías permanecerá abierta desde el 15 de octubre hasta el 10 de diciembre a las 14.00 horas (hora peninsular).
b. Cada aspirante podrá participar con un máximo de tres (3) fotografías. Para ello, deberá enviarlas al correo electrónico redes.sociales@casafrica.es. Las fotografías deben enviarse en formato JPEG o PNG, con una resolución aceptable y con un peso comprendido entre 1,5 y 4 MB. En el correo electrónico se deberán incluir los siguientes datos personales del participante:
 Nombre y apellidos
 Teléfono de contacto
 Dirección de correo electrónico
 Fecha de nacimiento
 Nacionalidad
 NIF, pasaporte o NIE
 Domicilio
 Código postal
 Población
 Título de cada fotografía
 Descripción de cada fotografía

Los aspirantes que no incluyan estos datos en el mensaje podrán ser excluidos del concurso.
c. Se valorará asimismo la creatividad y la innovación de la técnica utilizada y de la forma en que se transmite el mensaje. La descripción y el título de la fotografía también serán valorados bajo estos criterios.
d. El jurado estará compuesto por profesionales destacados del ámbito de las artes. Su composición se comunicará una vez publicado el fallo y se reunirá en los siguientes días tras la finalización del periodo de recepción de fotografías. El fallo del jurado se publicará en el sitio web de Casa África (http://www.casafrica.es) y en las redes sociales en las que Casa África está presente.
e. Casa África se reserva la facultad de declarar desierto el concurso en caso de que el número de imágenes presentadas no fuera suficiente, o en caso de que, a juicio del jurado, el nivel artístico o el motivo de las fotografías no se adecue a las bases y objetivos del concurso.
f. Las fotografías no podrán tener una antigüedad superior a cinco años en el momento de su presentación y no podrán haber sido premiadas en ningún otro concurso.

4. Premios
a. Cada imagen puede obtener uno de los siguientes premios:
 Primer premio: 600€
 Segundo y tercer premio: 200€ cada uno
b. A los autores de las tres fotografías premiadas se les notificará su condición de ganador a través de la dirección de correo electrónico facilitada a efectos de comunicaciones.
c. Los ganadores deberán contestar al mensaje recibido aceptando el premio. Si en el plazo de cinco días naturales desde el envío del correo electrónico no se

recibe respuesta o si la dirección de correo electrónico fuese errónea o inexistente, el premio pasará automáticamente a la siguiente fotografía seleccionada por el jurado.
d. El pago del premio estará sujeto a la legislación tributaria española vigente en el momento de su abono, independientemente de cuál sea el país de residencia fiscal de los ganadores.
e. Los ganadores podrán recibir el importe del premio por transferencia bancaria o mediante un servicio de envío de dinero. Los gastos de tramitación serán cargados en la cuenta de destino.

5. Protección de Datos
a. Los aspirantes y participantes del concurso quedan informados y autorizan que los datos personales facilitados al inscribirse en el concurso, sin cuya facilitación no se podrá participar en el mismo, se incorporarán a un fichero automatizado, titularidad del Consorcio Casa África, y serán tratados con la finalidad de desarrollar su participación en el concurso.

6. Derecho de exclusión
a. Consorcio Casa África se reserva el derecho de descartar y excluir del concurso a los participantes en los siguientes casos:
 Cuando se inscriban con datos falsos. A estos efectos, se podrá exigir a los participantes la verificación de sus datos.
 Cuando, de cualquier forma fraudulenta o artificial, manipulen su participación en el concurso.
 Cuando el jurado considere que las fotografías no se ajusten a la temática convocada; contengan elementos que de cualquier forma puedan considerarse contrarios a los derechos fundamentales y las libertades públicas; induzcan, inciten o promuevan actuaciones delictivas, denigratorias, violentas o, en general, contrarias a la ley, a la moral y buenas costumbres generalmente aceptadas o al orden público; se encuentren protegidas por cualesquiera derechos de propiedad intelectual o industrial pertenecientes a terceros, sin que el participante haya obtenido previamente de sus titulares la autorización necesaria; vulneren el derecho al honor, a la intimidad personal y familiar o a la propia imagen de las personas; puedan constituir publicidad o que incorporen virus u otros elementos que puedan dañar el normal funcionamiento de la red, del sistema o de equipos informáticos.
 Cuando se incumplan las presentes bases en cualquier forma.

7. Exoneración de responsabilidad
a. Consorcio Casa África queda exonerado, no haciéndose responsable respecto del incumplimiento del participante en materia de propiedad intelectual, industrial o de imagen, así como de cualquier responsabilidad que pudiera derivar del incumplimiento o cumplimiento defectuoso por los participantes en el concurso de las presentes Bases.
