NY TIMES Visual Time Capsule Call. Deadline Nov. 11, 2011

Picturing 7 Billion: A Visual Time Capsule

The United Nations Population Fund estimates that the world’s 7 billionth person was born on Oct. 31, 2011. This new generation comes into a world that is changing so rapidly it’s hard to predict what it’ll be like when they are adults. But we can show them what it is like today.

This is where you come in. The New York Times Lens blog is asking for your help in creating a photographic time capsule for these children. Make a photograph that documents how we live today. What do you want them to know 20 years from today about the world they’ve inherited?

We are not looking for photographs from your archive, but rather photos taken between Oct. 31 and Nov. 11. We’ll publish a large selection on Lens and share them with the families of the children we photographed Monday.

(Photos should be no larger than 5 MB, ideally 1000 pixels wide or more. In keeping with photojournalistic standards, please keep Photoshop to a minimum.)
