acePIRAR Artist-in-Residences, Buenos Aires. Deadline: Jan 31, 2017

‘acePIRAR Artist-in-Residence International Program aims to support all kind of contemporary artistic practices (including performance and curatorial proposals) through research and production residencies, promoting the exchange, debate, experimentation and collaborative work. A program that provides TIME, SPACE and GUIDANCE to explore expanded as well as traditional print media, while it connects the artists with the art scene of Buenos Aires, Argentina, one of the Latin America cultural capitals.

We offer different types of residencies in order to best fit to each artist and project’s interest and needs:
PRODUCTION | EXPLORATION | SUB30 (for artists under 30 with a special fee) | Palimpsest (for mural painting) | Micro-residency (short format of 5 days)

Production residencies [4 weeks]: intended to produce new work, a project or a site-specific installation with the possibility to show the finished work at the end of the stay. We welcome all kind of projects and encourage submitting those that question the singularity of the art object by using new media, design and/or their interfaces, blurring their boundaries.

Exploration residencies [4 weeks]: intended to emphasise the process over the presentation of the results, encouraging residents to get inspiration from the new experiences achieved through the interaction with other residents and the cultural environment that the city of Buenos Aires provides.

Duration of residency

Artists can apply for any slot for next year among those posted at the website. Residency working time starts on first Monday at 10am and ends on last Friday at 6pm.

NOTE: There is not a minimum or maximum age to apply for a residency (although there is a lower fee for artists younger than 30 years old), as well as there is not discrimination regarding country of origin, race, language or gender identity when candidates are selected.

Accommodation
Artists have two different possibilities of lodging:
A) Aloj´ace is our guesthouse, an apartment equipped to accommodate artists and curators located in the city center of Buenos Aires, next to all the cultural attractions and at only 20 minutes distance from the ‘ace studio. The apartment is fully furnished with a full kitchen and bath and all cost (Internet WI-FI, cable television, local phone usage, cleaning, linen and utilities) included. This apartment can receive up to two artists or a single artist with accompaniment.

B) The artist may arrange its own lodging by renting an apartment, staying with friends or in hostels, hotels, B&B, etc. Buenos Aires is a city that offers many lodging options.

Studio/ workspace
Artists that choose the Production Residency use the ‘ace workshop (www.proyectoace.org/en/talleres): a large, quiet space with lots of light coming from several large windows and two skylights. The shop includes equipment to facilitate a variety of traditional and new print processes including Intaglio, Monotype/Monoprint, Woodblock, Waterless Lithography, Silk-aquatint, Photpolymer Intaglio, as well as artists’ books and Drawing.

Artists who choose the Exploration residency work in The Tower (www.proyectoace.org/en/torre): a quiet and luminous studio located on the second floor with open view, accessibly by a spiral staircase. It is ideal to research, study, write and create.

Fees and support
Non application fee. The production residency has a basic fee and the artist can select other options: lodging, materials or technical assistance. Basic fee covers studio space, access to equipment, reviews from a professional team, meals and refreshments at studio hours, studio accident insurance, guidance through the city and cultural events, public transportation card, cellphone for local calls, networking. The residency fee does not include travel, health insurance and shipping expenses.

Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen invites visual and media artists, art critics, theorists, and curators to apply for a fellowship in 2017–2018. Candidates can apply for one semester (October 2, 2017 – February 11, 2018 or February 12, 2018 – June 24, 2018). The fellowship can be split across two semesters.

Institution

Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen is a post-graduate center for production, research, exchange in the fields of visual arts and art theory. Within the framework of the Fellowship Program for Art and Theory, the Künstlerhaus provides a platform that facilitates the development and production of artistic and art-theoretical projects in a critical context. At the same time, Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen offers a forum for direct exchange between professionals – artists, theoreticians, critics, and curators – from the region and abroad, as well as a point of interaction with local interested audiences. Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen is affiliated with the Tyrolean Artists’ Association, the major association of visual artists from the region.

Büchsenhausen brings together two programs under one roof. On the one hand, it is the site of the Fellowship Program for Art and Theory. On the other hand, it is the location of several studios for artists based in Tyrol who require space for working in a professionally interesting environment. Three apartment studios are used by the participants in the fellowship program. The other six studios are available to artists based in Tyrol. The project and presentation space is equipped with multimedia facilities and is at the fellows’ disposal. The space was designed by Atelier van Lieshout.

Fellowship Program

With its Fellowship Program for Art and Theory, Büchsenhausen promotes internationally relevant artistic production, research, and discussion in the region of Tyrol. The program is based on the idea of generating and maintaining a context for production and discussion, in which artists and theorists can connect and reflect on international art and societal discourses in relation to local topics and issues. At the same time, it affords the opportunity for an artistic laboratory of experimentation, where new artistic practices and strategies may be tried out.

The program’s aims are:

  • to promote and relay a critical, socially relevant production of knowledge in art and art theory;
  • to produce, through the fellowship projects, qualified discourses on art and society within the local and global contexts;
  • to enable the transfer of knowledge between the field of art and other publics outside the art context;
  • to facilitate the exchange between cultural producers in the visual arts and beyond (creating a network of experts).

The program combines the advantages of a residency with the possibilities of a postgraduate, non-university lectureship on the basis of an open, non-formalized structure. In terms of content, the program addresses a worldwide public made up of professionals in the fields of contemporary art, architecture, art and media theory, and criticism.

The fellows are selected by a jury of experts following an open call for applications. They come to Büchsenhausen for one or two semesters to work on realizing their proposed undertaking, and accompany this process with public events. For this purpose, Büchsenhausen assigns a monetary award and provides a production budget, working spaces, free lodging, and artistic and technical advice.

The conveyance and discussion of the fellow’s own work occurs parallel to the development of the individual proposals. The focus of the public events is determined by the respective emphases of the various fellows’ works. Within the framework of these discursive formats, the fellows (or their guests) can present various points in their investigations, open up their works-in-progress to critical discussion, interact with experts who they invite, work through content with the public, and/or try out new ways of working. The fellowship year ends with a group exhibition curated by the director of the Fellowship Program.

Fellowship

  • a money award of EUR 3,200;
  • an individual studio for working and living, furnished with a large shared kitchen;
  • a production budget for the realization of the submitted proposal;
  • a budget for inviting experts to Büchsenhausen for the purpose of professional exchange;
  • the opportunity of a group exhibition at the end of the fellowship;

Facilities

  • free access to the ‘Lab’, the project/gallery space;
  • free use of the available multimedia production equipment in the ‘Lab’;
  • free Highspeed-DSL/WLAN Internet access;
  • professional artistic advice;

Eligibility

Professional visual/media artists, art theorists, art critics, and curators from all over the world are eligible for the fellowship.

Requirements

The application must include a concrete work proposition. Work on the submitted proposal forms the core of each fellow’s activities during his/her stay in Büchsenhausen. A description of a series of public events intended to accompany the individual work during the duration of the fellowship (up to three events) is also an integral part of the working proposal. If the application is successful, the fellows are required to specify the details of the presentation series and carry out the proposed program.

The fellows declare themselves willing to be present at Büchsenhausen for the duration of the fellowship. Working knowledge of English is required.

Selection

The selection of fellows is made by a jury of experts and based on the quality, originality, and relevance of the proposed undertaking and the work samples submitted by the applicants. The jury includes the director of Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen, a member of the advisory board at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen and one external expert.

The selection procedure occurs in two stages.

In the first stage, the submitted applications are evaluated and the jury makes a shortlist of candidates who will be invited to Büchsenhausen for personal interviews.

The personal interview with the jury forms the second stage. For the interview, the applicants have to come to Innsbruck to personally present their working plans and aims during the fellowship.

Büchsenhausen will pay for accommodation in Innsbruck for one night, but cannot cover the costs for travel to Innsbruck. Alternatively, a video conference (for instance via Skype) is also possible.

There is no legal right to be awarded a fellowship at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. The jury is therefore under no obligation to justify decisions. The jury’s decision will be communicated in written form in March 2017 (first stage) and April 2017 (second stage).

Application procedure

Applications are to be written in English or German. Applications must include the following printed documents:

  • the working proposal (max 2,000 words, 3 copies);
  • a visual portfolio/documentation of recent works:
    • artists: The artistic portfolio can be submitted in paper form (max. 2 catalogs, max. 10 photos), on DVD, CD or USB stick (max. 1 DVD/CD/USB stick), or digitally via a permanent link (no time-limited download links like WeTransfer!);
    • theorists/art critics: 1 recent writing sample (3 copies);
  • a curriculum vitae (3 copies);
  • the printed and signed confirmation e-mail of the filled electronic application form (1 copy).

Institution

Das Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen ist ein postgraduales Zentrum für Produktion, Forschung und Vermittlung im Bereich der visuellen Künste und der Kunsttheorie. Im Rahmen des hier stattfindenden Fellowship-Programms stellt das Künstlerhaus eine Plattform zur Verfügung, die die Entwicklung und die Produktion künstlerischer und kunsttheoretischer Projekte in einem kritischen Kontext ermöglicht. Das Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen bildet gleichzeitig ein Forum für den direkten Austausch zwischen lokal und überregional tätigen Fachleuten – Künstler_innen, Theoretiker_innen, Kritiker_innen und Kurator_innen sowie eine Schnittstelle zu unterschiedlichen Öffentlichkeiten vor Ort. Das Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen ist eine Einrichtung der Tiroler Künstlerschaft, der wichtigsten Vereinigung bildender Künstler_innen in der Region.

Das Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen vereint zwei Förderprogramme unter einem Dach: Es ist einerseits Austragungsort des Fellowship-Programms für Kunst und Theorie. Andererseits ist es ein Atelierhaus für in Tirol lebende Künstler_innen, die einen Arbeitsraum in einer künstlerisch interessanten Umgebung suchen. Drei Ateliers stehen den Fellows als Wohnstudios zur Verfügung. Sechs weitere Ateliers werden mehrjährig an Künstler_innen aus Tirol vergeben. Neben den Ateliers verfügt das Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen über einen großen Projekt- und Präsentationsraum, der den Fellows zur Verfügung steht. Der Raum wurde vom Künstler_innen-Kollektiv Atelier van Lieshout gestaltet.

Fellowship-Programm

Mit dem Fellowship-Programm für Kunst und Theorie fördert das Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen in Tirol eine künstlerische Produktion, Forschung und Diskussion von internationaler und regionaler Relevanz. Dem Programm liegt die Idee zugrunde, einen Produktions- und Diskussionskontext zu generieren, in dem Künstler_innen und Theoretiker_innen überregionale Kunst- und Gesellschaftsdiskurse mit lokalen Themen in Zusammenhang bringen und reflektieren. Gleichzeitig wird die Möglichkeit eines künstlerischen Experimentierlabors gewahrt, wodurch Neues ausprobiert werden kann.

Ziele des Programms sind:

  • Förderung und Verbreitung einer kritischen, gesellschaftsrelevanten künstlerischen bzw. kunsttheoretischen Wissensproduktion;
  • Die Produktion qualifizierter Diskurse zu Kunst und Gesellschaft im lokalen und globalen Kontext durch die Umsetzung der Arbeitsvorhaben im Rahmen der Fellowships;
  • Die Ermöglichung des Wissenstransfers zwischen dem Kunstfeld und anderen Öffentlichkeiten außerhalb des Kunstkontextes;
  • Der Austausch zwischen Kulturproduzent_innen im Bereich der visuellen Künste und darüber hinaus (Vernetzung von Expert_innen).

Das Programm verbindet die Vorteile einer Residenz mit den Möglichkeiten einer außeruniversitären Dozentur auf Grundlage einer offenen, nicht formalisierten Struktur. Inhaltlich richtet sich das Programm an eine weltweite Fachöffentlichkeit in den Bereichen zeitgenössischer Kunst, Architektur, Kunst- bzw. Medientheorie und -kritik.

Die Fellows werden nach einem offenen Bewerbungsverfahren von einer Fachjury ausgewählt. Sie kommen für einen Zeitraum von ein bis zwei Semestern nach Büchsenhausen, wo sie am eingereichten Arbeitsvorhaben arbeiten und diesen Prozess in öffentlichen Veranstaltungen diskursiv begleiten. Büchsenhausen vergibt hierfür einen Geldpreis und stellt ein Produktionsbudget, Arbeitsräume, eine kostenlose Wohnmöglichkeit sowie fachliche und technische Beratung zur Verfügung.

Die Vermittlung und Diskussion der Inhalte erfolgt parallel zur Entwicklung der einzelnen Vorhaben. Die Inhalte der öffentlichen Veranstaltungen werden von dem jeweiligen Arbeitsschwerpunkt der Fellows vorgegeben. Im Rahmen dieser diskursiven Formate präsentieren die Fellows (oder ihre Gäste) unterschiedliche Schwerpunkte ihrer Investigationen, können aber auch ihre laufende Arbeit einer kritischen Diskussion stellen, sich in Interaktion mit eingeladenen Expert_innen und dem Publikum Inhalte erarbeiten und neue Arbeitsweisen erproben. Das Fellowship-Jahr endet mit einer Gruppenausstellung, die vom Leiter des Fellowship-Programms kuratiert wird.

Fellowship

Bewerbungsvoraussetzungen

Die Bewerbung muss ein konkretes Arbeitsvorhaben beinhalten. Die Arbeit an der Realisierung des eingereichten Vorhabens steht im Mittelpunkt der Tätigkeit während des Fellowships im Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. Ebenfalls verpflichtend ist die Einreichung eines Vorschlags für maximal drei öffentliche Veranstaltungen die die Arbeit am eingereichten Vorhaben über die Dauer des Fellowships begleitet. Erfolgreiche Bewerber_innen müssen in einem zweiten Schritt konkrete Details der Veranstaltungen formulieren und das Veranstaltungsprogramm durchführen.

Die Fellows erklären sich bereit, während der Fellowshipdauer in Büchsenhausen anwesend zu sein. Gute Englischkenntnisse werden vorausgesetzt.

Auswahl

Die Fellows werden von einer Fachjury ausgewählt. Grundsätzliche Auswahlkriterien sind die Qualität, Originalität und Relevanz des eingereichten Arbeitsvorhabens und des Portfolios. Die dreiköpfige Fachjury besteht aus dem künstlerischen Leiter des Künstlerhauses Büchsenhausen, einem Mitglied des Fachbeirats im Künstlerhaus und einer externen Fachperson.

Das Auswahlverfahren ist zweistufig.

In der ersten Stufe werden die schriftlichen Bewerbungen beurteilt. Die Jury erstellt eine engere Auswahlliste von Kandidat_innen. Diese Kandidat_innen werden zu einem persönlichen Interview nach Büchsenhausen eingeladen.

Die zweite Auswahlstufe besteht aus persönlichen Bewerbungsgesprächen. Die eingeladenen Kandidat_innen müssen nach Innsbruck kommen, um sich und ihr Arbeitsvorhaben der Fachjury vorzustellen. Im Rahmen der zweiten Bewerbungsstufe übernimmt Büchsenhausen die Kosten einer Übernachtung in Innsbruck. Die Reisekosten selbst müssen von den Kandidat_innen getragen werden. Falls die Anreise nicht möglich ist, kann das persönliche Bewerbungsgespräch auch im Rahmen einer Videokonferenz (z.B. über Skype) erfolgen.

Auf die Gewährung eines Fellowships im Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen besteht kein Rechtsanspruch. Die Jury ist nicht verpflichtet, eine Begründung der Zuerkennung oder Ablehnung eines Antrags abzugeben. Die Entscheidung der Jury wird schriftlich mitgeteilt, für die erste Stufe im März 2017, für die zweite Stufe im April 2017.

Bewerbungsablauf

Die Bewerbungen erfolgen schriftlich in englischer oder deutscher Sprache und müssen zwingend folgende Dokumente beinhalten:

Several research fellowships in the NY Historical Society. Deadline: Jan. 13, 2017

THE NEW-YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY, founded in 1804, holds a distinguished collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, graphic materials, decorative objects, historical artifacts, and works of art.

The Patricia D. Klingenstein Library at the New-York Historical Society is home to more than 350,000 books, three million manuscripts, and distinctive collections of maps, photographs, and prints, as well as ephemera and family papers documenting the history of the United States from a distinctly New York perspective. New-York Historical’s collections are particularly rich in material pertaining to the American Revolution and early Republic, the Civil War, and the Gilded Age. Significant holdings relate to Robert Livingston and the Livingston family, Rufus King, Horatio Gates, Albert Gallatin, Cadwallader Colden, Robert Fulton, Richard Varick, and many other notable individuals. Also well documented within the Library’s collections are major social movements in American history, especially abolitionism, temperance, and social welfare. The Library’s visual archives include some of the earliest photographs of New York, a significant collection of Civil War images, and the archives of major architectural firms of the later 19th century. Among the more than 1.6 million works comprising the Museum’s art collections are all 435 preparatory watercolors for John James Audubon’s Birds of America, a preeminent collection of Hudson River School landscapes; and an exceptional collection of decorative and fine arts spanning four centuries.

The New-York Historical Society offers a rich research environment that promotes an active intellectual community. Fellows are encouraged to explore the collections and take advantage of the full scope of the Library and Museum’s resources and to share their research during their tenure through informal talks and blog posts. Educational outreach and public programs further support New-York Historical’s intellectual mission to explore the richly layered political, cultural, and social history of New York and the nation, as well as the making and the meaning of history.

The New-York Historical Society offers several long- and short-term fellowships during the academic year. Designed to encourage and promote the use of the institution’s diverse collections of primary and secondary sources, the fellowships are open to scholars at various times during their academic careers.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Women’s History
Hired for a two-year term, one postdoctoral fellow will work as a public historian and intellectual coordinator for the New-York Historical Society’s Center for Women’s History. The ideal candidate will have a strong scholarly interest in women’s history and some experience in public history. The fellow will participate in developing programming and be deputized to operate certain projects independently. Applicants for the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship must have the PhD in hand by the time of appointment. The postdoctoral fellow will be in residence as a full-time staff member with a stipend of $50,000 per year with full benefits. This fellowship lasts from September 1, 2017 until August 30, 2019.

Bernard and Irene Schwartz Fellowships
Offered jointly with the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School, two Bernard and Irene Schwartz Fellowships are open to scholars who will have completed their PhD in history or American studies before the end of the 2016-2017 academic year. Fellows will teach one course per semester at Eugene Lang College in addition to conducting focused research in residence at the New-York Historical Society. These fellows carry a stipend of $60,000, plus benefits. The fellowship lasts from September 1, 2017 until June 29, 2018.

Patricia and John Klingenstein Short-Term Fellowships
Two or more Patricia and John Klingenstein Short-Term Fellowships will be awarded to scholars at any academic level. Fellows will conduct research in the New-York Historical Society’s library collections for two to four weeks at a time, and will receive a stipend of $1,500 to $2,000. These fellowships last from September 1, 2017 until June 29, 2018.
Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships in Women’s History
The two recipients of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship in Women’s History should have a strong interest in the fields of women’s history and public history. They must be currently enrolled students in good standing in a relevant PhD program in the humanities. The Predoctoral Fellows will be in residence part time at the New-York Historical Society for one academic year, between September 1, 2017 and June 29, 2018, with a stipend of $15,000 per year. This position is not full time and will not receive full benefits.

National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship
One fellowship for the length of a single academic year is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities for research at the New-York Historical Society. The fellowship is available to individuals who have completed their formal professional training and have a strong record of accomplishment within their field. There is no restriction relating to age or academic status of applicants. Foreign nationals are eligible to apply if they have lived in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline. The ten-month residency will carry a stipend of $42,000, plus benefits. This fellowship lasts from September 1, 2017 until June 29, 2018.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowships
Two Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowships will be awarded to candidates who have earned their PhD in the last three to five years. Research projects may include the conversion of a dissertation into a publishable manuscript or the initiation of new research based on the collections and resources of the New-York Historical Society. This ten-month residency will carry a stipend of $60,000, plus benefits. The fellowship lasts from September 1, 2017 until June 29, 2018.

New Photography Festival Call, Belgium. Deadline:Jan. 23, 2017

Next summer the Cultural Centre of Palethe will organize the first edition of a two-yearly international photo festival ‘Lens op de mens’ (Spotlight on people) in Overpelt (Belgium).

 All professional and keen amateur photographers from around the world are welcome in Overpelt to show their most photogenic work to a large public. For this edition the subject is the human portrait.

RULES & REGULATIONS:

SUBMITTING PHOTOS

The competition is open for professional and amateur photographers of a high level.

  • The theme of the photos is ‘Lens op de mens’ meaning that photos have to be about people in the large meaning of the word. For example, photos can represent documentaries or art.

  • Every photographer can upload a maximum of 5 photos. Photos have to be taken in 2014, 2015, 2016 of 2017. The photographer has to pay a maximum of 20 euro incl. VAT for every photo uploaded to share costs.

  • You can submit photos up until midnight 23 January 2017.

  • Photos are selected by an international jury depending on photographic qualities. It is not possible to appeal against their decision.

  • The copyright of all images submitted remains with the copyright holder. However the Overpelt Photo Festival ‘Lens op de Mens’ reserves the right to use any of the images submitted, without payment, for display and publicity purposes for this and future Overpelt Photo Festival projects. It is vital that the candidate obtains the permission of the client and/or the copyright holder and any relevant model release forms, where appropriate before submitting the work.

  • Photos have to be submitted as jpg-files, compression High (10-12). The longest side of the pictures must be 50 cm (= 5906 pixels at 300 dpi).

  • The filename must be composed as:Name_First Name_Title_number.jpg

  • When the festival is finished and the exhibition is dismantled, the photographer can collect all photos. This will be between 18 and 28 September 2017 at set days and times. These will be advised at a future date. If the photographer doesn’t collect the photos, they will automatically become property of the organization. Photos selected for other exhibitions can’t be collected by the photographer.

EXHIBITION

  • All photos will be exhibited during the exhibition. The selected photos will be printed; all other photos will be digital.

  • The selected photos will be printed by the organization without any cost to the participating photographer.

  • The name of the photographer will be displayed under each photo by the organization. Logos of partners and sponsors can also be included under the photo.

  • Photos can be selected by the organisation and may be passed on to other exhibitions. These photos will remain property of the organization. We will notify the selected photographers by E-mail.

  • Any indecent or pornographic photos will be refused by the organization.

The Gala Awards organizes the 5th edition of THE JACOB RIIS AWARD (named after the Danish-American photographer, 1849-1914), inviting photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. Challenging personal, emotional or political statements will be welcome. The Award is open worldwide to all professional and amateur photographers working with digital or traditional photography.
No digital manipulation will be accepted if it alters the visual chronicle.

Any type of photography is accepted, either Black & White or Color.

In this edition, only series composed of 3 to 10 images will be accepted. The series has to be a coherent body of work, and each image composing the series must have its own intrinsic value.

The theme of the Award is Editorial and Documentary.

By Editorial and Documentary we understand the form of photography used to chronicle everyday life images, to illustrate an article or to inform and educate. It can be simply said that editorial and documentary is the photography that supports the printed word, although it can be used as standalone, while we distinguish it from corporate, advertising, or fine art photography.

This awards qualify to be selected to participate in the 5th edition of the Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography which will be held as Prague Foto Biennale to be held in Prague in September-October, 2018.

Eligibility: Open to all photographers 18 years old or older, professional and amateur, from any country of the world.

Andrea Star Reese is a VISURA photojournalist/documentary photographer based in New York, Seattle, and Jakarta, which recently won the 9th Julia Margaret Cameron Award, best portfolio in Human Rights in the Berlin Foto Biennale, and the Deeper Perspective Award of IPA.
Her potftolio Urban Cave was a Visa D’Or at Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan, 2010. Andrea also received the 2014 David Pike Award for Excellence in Journalism and Best Social Documentary at the 2009 New York Festival (2009). Among other media, Andrea has published in CNN, The Guardian, Time, Huffington Post, Le Monde, and Paris Match.

Awards:

One Photographer will be Recipient of the Jacob Riis Award Award, and will be invited to exhibit and attend the 5th edition of the Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography to be held in Prague* in September-October, 2018. The Gala Awards will pay her round trip couch ticket to Prague*, and $1,000 for lodging expenses. Awardee’s exhibition expenses will be borne by The Gala Awards.

*: The organizer of the Award reserves the right to change the city of the Biennial in case of extraordinary circumstances. If Prague is changed by another city, the city of the venue will be always within Europe.

Two Runner Ups Photographers will receive a prize of $300, and will be automatically selected to exhibit at the 5th edition of the Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography.

Residency for US based artists. Deadline: Jan. 20, 2017

Residency Unlimited (RU) is pleased to announce an open call available to six US based artists for three months residencies each, from March 1 to November 30, 2017.

Each artist will receive a stipend of $1000. This program is made possible with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) “Art Works” Grant Program.

What does this residency provide?

-a three months residency from March 1 to November 30, 2016 (Residencies begin March, June and September, please indicate your preference)
-stipend of $1000

The selected US based artists will work from RU’s shared, multi-use workspace at 360 Court Street in Brooklyn. They will receive ongoing logistical and technical support from the RU staff for the successful realization of their project, and will be invited to participate in monthly field trips and workshops. There will be weekly curatorial studio visits to ensure them with access to peers and creative feedback on their work. Each residency will conclude with a public presentation of their new work at the RU event space or at a partnering venue.

Through RU’s extensive network, these US based artists will engage with RU’s roster of international artists.

What are the criteria for selection?

▪ Visual artists, with an active professional practice of at least two years, irrespective of age or nationality.
▪ Must be a US Based artist for at least 3 years.
▪ Artists should not be engaged in another residency or academic program during the residency period.

Selection procedure:

A jury consisting of RU staff, independent curators, and advisers will select the candidate based on the artistic quality of his/her work; quality of the proposed project; likely benefit to the artist of RU’s tailored residency; artist’s interest in engaging with the RU community and embracing the overall residency experience.

Short-listed artists will be interviewed by RU staff and other panel members. Final selections are made by the full panel.

Note: Non New York based artists, if chosen, are responsible for travel and accommodation, (RU can assist in identifying appropriate housing if needed).
