WANDERLUST. PHOTOGRAPHIC ART. DEADLINE MAY, 27.

Call for entries to: photographers and photographic artists with images that are dedicated to “Wanderlust”. This exhibition will be on view from June 20th until August, 5th, 2018, in Galerie Sehnsucht.

What we are looking for, is artistic photography showing the feeling of Wanderlust.

Wanderlust is a German loanword, known to many people, for most of us have this irresistibly strong desire to travel, to wander and to rove about. Although the word dates back to the half of the nineteenth century, wandering became fashionable around 1800. The French philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau urged people to get back to nature, and in Germany a whole bunch of ‘Sturm und Drang’ poets strolled about nature, Goethe ahead, to express their modern consciousness of life. For life was heavily shaken up by all the wars and revolutions that time and hardly anything was still the same. Nature, travel, the great unknown gave way to a new pace in life where one could slow down and escape everyday hectic. Travelling by foot lead to an encounter with nature that was both physical and sensual. Like a pilgrimage, one could meet the sublime in nature and in oneself.

The Jury: will be assisted by Eli Dijkers. He will be the guest curator for this exhibition.

Resistance as the way of survival

“Contemporary human is a willing victim of the consumerist world. in a materialistic world, our will to survive is the moving force, it pushes us to be a part of this endless net.

Reality, based on the consumerism, transforms our line of thought, the value systems, our necessities, our goals… it dictates our decisions, forces us to fit ourselves in the frames it has created.

During the residency, artists will answer the question: which tools can be used to protect our fragile, inner selves from the wildness of today, and which ways can lead to our resistance to the consumeristic order, how it is possible to follow our real desires, while not ignoring the outside world, not hiding, nor being lost in it.”

Disciplines: Animation, Dance, Design (Fashion, Applied arts…), Video, Installation, Land Art, Performance, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Textile.

Location: Ambassador Hotel Tbilisi, Georgia or Ambassador Hotel Kachreti, Georgia
