Return2ithaca is looking for three photographers who will participate in the Residency Program
from 25/8 to 10/9/2023 in the island of Ithaca, Greece
What is Return2Ithaca: An artist residency program that gives space to Greek and International photographers to be together in the island for 15 days producing personal work, as well as meeting with acclaimed curators to review their projects. Through in-depth acquaintance with the island, its history, the concepts, and the universal messages that gush from the Odyssey, the artists will produce their own personal work. Ithaca offers an opportunity for the presentation of photographic works of known artists from all parts of the world, for discussing and exchanging views on social, environmental, racial, and everyday issues, that concern photography and arts today. A lively space that combines team interaction and work, with personal moments of relaxation and search for new expressive routes.
What distinguishes the Ithaca artists’ Residency is the opportunity for artists to spend time with renowned curators, who are invited to the island to work with them, to exchange experiences, opinions and views that springs out from the theme of the world-famous epic of the Odyssey, as well as gaining insides, reviews, and mentorship for their work in general. The Jury
Alejandro Castellote (Independent Curator (ES) –Nina Kassianou (Historian, Curator of photography and Founder of R2I Residency Program (GR) – Hercules Papaioannou (Curator of Photography Museum of Thessaloniki Momus (GR)
What is offered: Accommodation & breakfast for 15 days at the Environmental Center in the port of Vathi Ithaca. Travel and other accommodation costs are covered by the participating artists of the project.
What is required by the participants: To attend all the events of the program. To stay at the island for the entire duration of the Residency, to participate to all in person & online meetings with the curators. To deliver the final body of work in relation to the theme agreed and, on the dates, set. There is no obligation to deliver the work during the Residency. To deliver the images of the work in the proper resolution for printing for exhibition or projection, supported by artist’s statement and texts.
Eligibility: All International and Greek Photographers under the age of 40.
Submission of Works: By the 30th of March 2023, up to 2 Portfolios with 8-12 photographs each of a specific theme, forming a personal photographic view. The application must include a statement (300 words max) for each of the submitted portfolios and a short CV of the applicant, (300 words max)
